Frequently Asked Questions

Q) What is Suburb View?
A) Suburb View is an independent real estate search engine that scans thousands of agent websites across Australia to provide a live view of properties currently listed for sale or rent. It displays listings on an interactive suburb map, showing price, property details, and agent links all in one place. Suburb View helps you cut through the noise and search across multiple websites without jumping from tab to tab.

Q) Are you affiliated with any of the major real estate websites?
A) No. Suburb View is completely independent. It is not owned by, or partnered with, any of the major real estate portals or agencies. This independence allows us to provide a more transparent and streamlined view of the market, without paid prioritisation or listings being hidden behind filters.

Q) Where does the data come from?
A) Listings are collected by a custom-built crawler that scans over 10,000 real estate agency websites. If a property includes a full address, it's geocoded and plotted on the map. The site also tracks listing URLs and price changes, updating suburb maps in near real time.

Q) Is Suburb View the same as Old Listings?
A) Suburb View and Old Listings are sister sites. Suburb View focuses on active and current property listings, while Old Listings is a historical archive of listings no longer online. If you're looking for a real-time search experience, use Suburb View. If you're doing research or want to see what a property was listed for in the past, head to Old Listings.

Q) Are the prices shown the actual sale prices?
A) No. The site shows the advertised price at the time of listing. Actual sale prices are not included unless explicitly stated in the agent’s listing. If you need verified sale data, check official government title records or paid services.

Q) Why does a listing sometimes appear multiple times?
A) Some listings are duplicated across multiple agency websites or franchise portals. Suburb View tries to group these together, but in some cases they are shown as separate entries if they contain different data or if one is re-listed after a price change.

Q) What if a property listing is wrong or outdated?
A) Suburb View shows what’s currently live on agency websites. If a listing looks out of date or incorrect, it will usually be updated automatically within a few hours or disappear when the agent removes it. You can also report any issues via the Contact Form.

Q) Can I request to remove a listing?
A) Yes. If you’re the owner or agent of a property and want it removed from our results, please contact us with the address or listing URL and we’ll take care of it.

Q) How often is the data updated?
A) Suburb View updates in near real time based on user demand. When a suburb is searched, it’s added to a queue for re-scan if its listings are older than 5 days. In most cases, fresh data is shown within 24 hours.

Q) Why are there no results for my suburb?
A) This could mean one of two things: either no listings were found during the last scan, or the suburb hasn’t been searched recently. Try performing a search—if anything is live, it will appear and trigger an update.

Q) Is Suburb View really run by one person?
A) Yes. The entire platform, from the map interface to the backend crawl engine, was built and is maintained by a single developer (Mark F). The goal has always been to make property search faster, cleaner, and more transparent for everyday Australians.

Q) What kind of tech powers Suburb View?
A) Suburb View uses a custom-built system tailored for the quirks of Australian real estate data. Key features include:

  • Distributed crawling across over 10,000 agency websites
  • Live suburb maps showing all properties in one view
  • Automatic detection of re-listings and price changes
  • Maps and geocoding integration
  • Real-time updates based on user search activity

Q) Can I use the data for research?
A) Absolutely. If you're a researcher, analyst, journalist or working on a project related to real estate data, feel free to get in touch via the Contact Form. We’re happy to discuss collaborations or data use cases.
